FlipZu was founded by Lucas Lain and Dario Rapisardi in June of 2010. The application gives users a place to broadcast and attract the attention of a following. Other users can comment and share broadcasts they like so the user gains notoriety while growing their audience. The current application is available on the web and as a mobile version so users have more ways to broadcast and listen in on their favorite users.
Flipzu.com was shut down in 2012.
FlipZu is a unique application for a number of reasons. First, FlipZu users are given the opportunity to create and air their own online broadcasts anytime they like. There are no restrictions, so users can put together any kind of broadcast imaginable. Second, the application airs broadcasts in real time. Users can improvise and create an entirely new type of show or program on the fly while others listen in and experience it as it happens. Professionals can use FlipZu to share information and respond to questions as they are posted.
The user interface looks much like other audio-themed website. The user is presented with comments and archives along the lower half of the page while the current broadcast is displayed near the top. The site includes colorful backgrounds that make each page fun and even more interesting. There are advertisements found throughout, however these generally stay off to the side. FlipZu has a fun, upbeat design that allows the user to navigate easily.
A new user can sign in to FlipZu by clicking one of the two buttons located in the upper, right hand corner of the homepage. The first is for Facebook users while the second is for Twitter users. The user must link one of these two accounts to use FlipZu. Users are not required to sign in to listen to broadcasts showcased on the FlipZu homepage. Mobile users can click the Android or App Store buttons near the center of the homepage to access the mobile version of FlipZu.
FlipZu is available to all users for free. There are no subscription fees and the user does not have to pay a fee to listen to broadcasts. Broadcasting is also free. All users are given the same level of access and can return as often as they like. The mobile versions are also available for free and can be purchased through the Android Marketplace or the Apple App Store. The site contains advertisements; however the user is not required to make a purchase to maintain an account.
FlipZu.com is aimed at almost anyone. Professionals can use the application to share product information, demonstrations or to meet with team members or employees online. Casual users can have fun with friends or host their own unique web based radio show. The application has many uses and is available for free to all users. The interface is user friendly and there are almost no limitations placed on what the user can broadcast.
